Madrid increases its cultural and leisure offer with restaurants offering live shows. The most frequent types of shows are opera, erotic shows, karaoke and magic. Prices fluctuate between 25€ and 50€. Most of these restaurants with shows are located in Madrid’s downtown. Shows start at 10 p.m. and go until the early morning hours on the weekends.

The opera restaurants are one of the most in-demand options with regards to restaurants with shows. These offer performances with brief opera improvisations that are usually done by the wait staff themselves. Their menus offer mostly traditional Spanish and Italian cuisine with a good wine selection. Prices usually range from 30€ to 50€, with the show always included. The most well-known in Madrid are:

La Castafiore (Calle Marqués de Monasterio 5. Metro Colón)
One of the veterans in the opera world and one of the most well-known restaurants in Madrid. The wait staff perform improvisations of opera during dinner with piano music accompaniment. It offers a Mediterranean menu with highlights such as the Medallón con foie con aceite de Oporto. Closed Sundays. The lunch menu is always less expensive than dinner, but it not does not have opera performances.

La Favorita (Calle Covarrubias 25. Metro Bilbao)
The Favorita restaurant is located in a beautiful mansion in Madrid’s city center, headquarters of an opera foundation. The restaurant offers traditional cuisine from the north of Spain. During the dinner various singers perform arias every 20 minutes. Meals during other parts of the day are less expensive but not accompanied by live shows. Closed Sundays.

Bel Canto Pinocchio (Calle Sánchez Bustillo 5. Metro Atocha)

Italian restaurant where the wait staff transform themselves into spontaneous opera singers, creating a festive dinner ambience beginning at 10 p.m. The simple décor is reminiscent of the old Italian taverns. It is common for the patrons to sing along with the wait staff. Closed Sundays.

It offers traditional Spanish and European cuisine while its wait staff sings the most popular opera and zarzuela pieces. Part of the charm of the establishment is owed to its location next to Madrid’s Teatro Real, opera center of the city. The décor is simple, elegant and welcoming. Located at Santa Ana Plaza, this restaurant offers opera shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Besides the improvised operas that the wait staff sings, there is also live piano music at dinner. Highlights include its brick interior and copper ceilings, as well a varied menu of Spanish cuisine and an ample selection of national wines.

Ópera de Madrid (Calle Amnisitía 5. Metro Ópera)
In this traditional Spanish cuisine restaurant, the opera singers that light up the dinners are music students. The shows take place only Friday and Saturday evenings in the main room after 10 p.m. The restaurant is known for its elegant and harmonious décor as well as its proximity to the Teatro Real. Located more to the north of Madrid, near the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, this offers Italian cuisine and a wide variety of pizzas. The décor is reminiscent of the old Italian restaurants. Open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. After 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, the wait staff sings opera and zarzuela.
