Chueca is known for its gastronomic and leisure variety. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, cafés and clubs that attract numerous Madrid residents to the streets of Chueca. We offer a selection of some of the most frequented. However, a short walk through Chueca is enough to discover many other equally exclusive places.

El Armario (Calle San Bartolomé 7. Metro Chueca)

This is considered the first gay restaurant in Chueca. Since its opening in 1996, it has opened its doors to all the people who want to meet in a nearby, relaxed, and pleasant environment. Their careful decoration and the good deals they offer, make this restaurant an ideal place to taste elaborate traditional meals at lunchtime. At night they take a sophisticated turn, offering traditional dishes with a touch of creativity. The price per menu item is usually around 10€.


Lombok (Calle Augusto Figueroa 32. Metro Chueca)

Café-restaurant with a small space and minimalist decoration. Modern music, straight lines and an international menu with imaginative touched. The specialty is the duck thigh (magret de pato). This is one of the most well known places in Chueca. Prices range from 25 to 35€. Closed Sundays.


Divina la cocina (Calle Colmenares 13. Metro Chueca)

Large restaurant where typical Spanish dishes are made even more delicious with innovative combinations. Noontime usually brings in business lunches, and at night it is transformed into a more social restaurant. It usually is more than 40€.


Bazaar (Calle Libertad 21. Metro Chueca)

Bazaar is one of the most popular restaurants in Chueca. Its creative kitchen fuses Mediterranean and modern traditions. It is known for its minimalist decoration and for its exquisite but reasonably-priced menu. It is open every day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Reservations are not accepted.


Wagaboo (Calle Gravina 18. Metro Chueca)

Careful, pop-style decoration with rose tones, large windows, and exposed brick. The menu combines Mediterranean and international recipes (especially oriental) and lots of imagination. Prices are usually about 10€.

Gay bars and cafés in Chueca

Café Bar & Lounge (Calle Libertad 28. Metro Chueca)

This café is one of the most modern spots in Madrid. Besides being a café, it is known for its natural juices, cakes and imaginative cocktails. At night it offers drinks, and from Thursday to Sunday the environment livens with live music.


Areia Colonial Chillout (Calle Hortaleza 92. Metro Chueca)

This place evokes the colonial atmosphere with chill out style. Areia is a café, bar and restaurant that stays open until 4 a.m. Its kitchen is international with vegetarian influences. Among the most interesting dishes are the fantasy salad, the prawn sticks and the tofu. The menu also offers a variety of cocktails, infusions and wines. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays.


Café Acuarela (Calle Gravina 10. Metro Chueca)

Very near to the Plaza de Chueca, this establishment is known for its wooden structure, purple tones, large chandeliers and its intimate interior ambiance. Its dim lighting and large sofas allow relaxation in a comfortable environment, while you drink a coffee, tea or caipirinha. It opens every day at 3 p.m.


Café Mamá Inés (Calle Hortaleza 22. Metro Gran Vía)

Located in the most commercial area of the Chueca neighborhood, this café opens its doors at 10 a.m. to offer a tasty breakfast. In the afternoon, there is a more intimate environment, perfect for an outing with friends. The café is known for its international coffees and homemade cakes.

Gay clubs in Chueca

Black & White (Calle Libertad 34. Metro Chueca)

This is the most emblematic gay nightclub in Madrid. Since its opening in 1982, it has pushed to innovate and make its public enjoy themselves. Every day there is a different show, and the majority of the national panorama of cross-dressers, strippers and drag queens have passed through the club. Their two floors provide different ambiences. On the top floor one can enjoy a drink while relaxing, while the lower, known as Rainbow, lets the imagination go wild dancing to the rhythm of the best music.


Escape (Calle Gravina 13. Metro Chueca)

This gay nightclub offers a relaxed environment with music ranging from dance to Spanish. The place started as a lesbian club but is frequented today by any type of person. Open Thursday to Saturday from midnight on.
